Two weeks ago, my husband Rick and I bought a 1977 Ontario 32 sailboat named Guinevere.
She is sitting on the hard in Kingston, Ontario, 620 kilometres away from where we live in Windsor, Ontario. I did have a quick tour of the boat under her winter tarp before we bought her and it was love at first sight for me. I haven’t seen our sailboat since the purchase and now I’m excited for a proper introduction and the start of a long and happy relationship.
On Sunday we will be driving up to Kingston where we plan to launch Guinevere, step her mast, then take our time to get to know her. We will live aboard, get her organized and cozy, and learn what we need to know about our new home on the water. Kingston is a beautiful city and we look forward to our time at the Collins Bay Marina. Eventually we plan to sail west across Lake Ontario, through the Welland Canal, then through Lake Erie to home where we will put her up on her cradle for a few proper repairs in the late summer and early fall.
As you can see, we have a great experience ahead of us. Our calendar is open and we are going to follow our hearts for the next 3 months or so. I plan to keep a record of our daily adventures on this blog, so join me if you care to see how life aboard pans out for these two enthusiastic sailors.
